Leather care schedule
A simple schedule for smooth leather — boots, jackets, furniture, saddles, and bags.
This is the routine we use with Skidmore's Original Leather Cream or Restoration Cream and the Featherline 1" applicators.
How often
- Boots and shoes: every 3–6 months, or after a hard wet season
- Jackets and motorcycle gear: 2–3 times per year
- Saddles and tack: every 3–6 months if used, once a year if stored
- Furniture: 1–2 times per year, more if it sits in sun
- Bags and belts: 2–3 times per year
If the leather looks ashy, feels stiff, or water no longer beads, do it now. Do not wait for the calendar.
Which cream
- Original Leather Cream — regular care on leather that is still in decent shape
- Restoration Cream — dry, faded, or cracked pieces
- Beeswax Waterproofing — after conditioning, on boots and riding gear that see rain
How to do it
- Wipe off dust. Do not soak the leather.
- Apply a thin coat with the Featherline 1" applicators (flat and round).
- Wait 20 minutes for the cream to absorb.
- Buff with a clean cloth.
- If it still looks hungry, one more thin coat. Stop before it feels greasy.
Rules
- Not for suede or nubuck
- Test a hidden spot first — the cream can slightly deepen color
- A little product goes a long way
